Well, we're officially half-way through our 2013 growing season. I don't know if time is flying for anyone else out there, but it sure is for us. speaking of fall, we've been able to get a great start on our fall gardens. Our first plantings are coming along nicely, and we could have greens again in a few weeks. These few days of dry weather and sun have worked wonders as well. Peter has been preparing our fields with "the spader", which is an Italian tractor implement that digs deeply in the field, gently breaking up the soil, and leaving a fine seedbed behind it. It is very slow-moving and thus takes a loooooong time, but you save yourself many more steps and headaches by prepping your soil this way. Now, we've got about an acre of rich, brown soil ready to plant into. Crop update: the first melons are nearly ready. Eggplants are close behind. Spaghetti and Delicata winter squash are around the corner as well. Exciting Times!
